Reflection No. 2:18 on Q 61:14 – Helping in the cause of Allah

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُونُوا أَنْصَارَ اللَّهِ

O you who believe! be helpers (in the cause) of Allah
Sura as-Saff, verse 14

How would you like to be part of the group that works for Allah on earth? It is a privileged position and an honor that is bestowed on those who are sincere in their efforts to make a difference.. Those who love God and His creatures, who walk gently on earth, and make good use of the time that has been granted to them. To be a helper of Allah means to be worthy of working on behalf of Allah in this world.

The verse is a call for all believers to join this group. We often wish we were part of the group that was with the Holy Prophet (s), the Ansaar who were fortunate enough to help the Prophet (s) and his mission, and who opened up their hearts and homes to welcome him. We also pray that we will be from among the Ansaar of the present Imam (a), part of his army that will establish peace and justice in this world.

To recite this verse often is to remind yourself that you can be a helper of Allah, at all times. Help His cause in any way you can. Within your small circles of family, friends, social contacts, etc. Through your tongue, your pen, your computer . . . Make people happy with the love and care you show them. Spread the message of Islam in a positive manner, even in small doses. Draw people towards Allah. It is amazing how successful you can be once you start on that determinedly. After all, Allah has promised that if you help Him, He will help you (47:7).

Every day, renew your contract as a helper of Allah by reciting this verse, and answering God’s call. Remind yourself that you have work to do. To be a helper of God requires constant alertness. It is an exciting job, one that makes life meaningful and rewarding. It is as they say, a purpose driven life.
